Simulations and the Conceptual Assessment Framework in simSchool

Abstract. SimSchool is a teacher education computer simulation of a grade 7 – 12 classroom being developed with funding from the Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology (PT3, 2003) program. The simulation provides users with instruction and practice in a model environment for developing skills of lesson planning, differentiating instruction, classroom management, special education, and adapting teaching to multiple cognitive abilities. The Conceptual Assessment Framework of (Almond, Steinberg, & Mislevy, 2002) helps explain simSchool ’s embedded theories of teaching and the inferential assessment framework used to provide feedback to users about their levels of knowledge and abilities as teachers.
