Building Collaborative Cultures: Seeking Ways to Reshape Urban Schools

Link: http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/educatrs/leadrshp/le0pet.htm

This monograph concentrates on two questions: (1) What are the components of collaborative cultures? and (2) How do schools develop collaborative cultures? In seeking to answer these questions, the monograph first details the importance of collaboration, paying special attention to the ways in which collaborative school cultures serve quality teaching and learning. It then examines the variety of cultures that exist among schools. The monograph goes on to discuss how collegial relationships function in successful collaborative school cultures, how these relationships develop, and how they can be nurtured.
